Subject:  CHOP Food Trip:  Mid-Autumn Festival in Chinatown, Saturday, September 26, 2015

Dear fellow members,

Last year, we went to Chinatown before Chinese New Year to see the preparations for the most important event in the Chinese calendar also known as the Spring Festival.

Another special event that unites the family is the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is on the 15th day of the 8th month in the Chinese calendar.  This falls on our Gregorian calendar as the full moon on September 27. This is the time of year when friends and family exchange moon cakes and get together. This year, we will go to Binondo again and have lunch followed by the Chinese dice game in the same restaurant.  Ivan Man Dy, one of our members who conducts tours of Chinatown, also has a tour that morning at 9, if any of you are interested or if you’ve missed last years event. If you decide to join the morning tour, Ivan will ensure that the tour will finish on time for you and him to make it to our lunch.

One tradition of the Filipino Chinese is to play the dice game with prizes which are given away when the lucky dice thrower comes up with the correct dice combinations.  It is usually played among family members and friends and the more the merrier.

We are hoping to keep the costs down at P1,500 per person, which will include the prizes but the organizers will also try to obtain prizes from sponsors.

I need a head count of how many are interested, as the final venue will be booked depending on how many will join. Family members are encouraged to attend.

It will surely be a fun afternoon and, when we are done, you may head off and buy more moon cakes to give away to friends.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions to make this another very interesting event, this time focusing on Filipino Chinese food traditions.

Hoping to hear from you soon,
PIA
