"A TASTE OF NEGROS" - This is the first time that CHOP will venture as far as a plane ride away to the land of smiles: BACOLOD. We will be hosted and led by CHOP's husband-and-wife team, Tom and Mitch Bascon, who will bring us through Bacolod, Silay, and Talisay in two full days on Saturday and Sunday. The tour will include a market tour, food demonstrations, meals at several establishments, and shopping for pasalubongs. Airfare and accommodations will be to the individual’s account, and only the internal tour-related costs will be covered by the fee to be charged. Additional details will be sent to the membership as soon as they are confirmed.

FRIDAY, JULY 24
Arrive in Bacolod (Own arrangements)
7:00pm Dinner - Enjoy a typical Ilonggo meal that will feature among other
things:
- KBL (kadios, baboy, langka with batuan)
- Laswa (vegetable soup)
- Alimusan paksiw
- Pitaw (if available)
SATURDAY, JULY 25

from hotel and drive to Silay City

- See
how “Manug-libuds” (roaming food vendors) purchase home-
made delicacies for their food baskets as practiced in the old days.
- Buy local ingredients such as: batuan
(local berry, a souring agent for soups; kalkag (dried, tiny shrimps); pinakas
or lamayo (sun-dried fish); ginamos (local bagoong); fresh sugar cane juice (if
in season).
7:55am- Mid-morning
snacks in El Ideal bakery, a restaurant serving baked goods
8:40am since the
1920’s.

Taste their unique guapple pie.
- Buy old fashioned snacks (lubid lubid, broas, biscocho, sinambag,
quinihad, baƱadas, butong-butong, chewy meringues, etc.)
8:50am- Visit the Ancestral House of Jose B. Gamboa
9:20am - Be welcomed by the
Silaynon hosts to their ancestral home.
- Enjoy a mid-morning fare of special home-made delicacies such as
fresh
lumpia, old-fashioned empanada, puto lanson or puto taktak
(cassava cake
dessert), and salab (coconut pancake).
