About CHOP

The Culinary Historians of the Philippines (CHOP) is a non-profit sister organization of the Culinary Historians of Washington, D.C. (CHoWDC). We are not historians in the academic or scholarly sense; we are students of culinary history who want to give back to society through culinary-based programs. Our mission: To study, promote, and help preserve the history and heritage of Philippine cuisine and culinary customs/traditions; to implement advocacy programs; and to study the cuisines of other countries. Lecture/Seminar, Promoting Pinoy Food on Social Media, August 1, 2015, Aguinaldo Shrine, Kawit, Cavite

[This posting is in the process of being updated. Thanks for your patience.]

Following is the latest announcement sent out by Pia to the membership on July 11, 2015:

Now that the rains have finally arrived, CHOP is ready to kick off its first lecture for the year, and our theme is PROMOTING PHILIPPINE CUISINE VIA SOCIAL MEDIA, to be held at the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite on Saturday, August 1, 2015, 2:00pm to 6:00pm.

The lecture focuses on how we can use the different social media apps such as Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instragram and others to promote and broadcast our cuisine worldwide and instantaneously.

For those who want to attend and learn, you will need to bring your smartphones fully charged or bring a battery charger.  We will be sending you another email with the step-by-step instructions on how to load these apps into your phones so that everyone will already have the apps installed before the lecture.  The shrine is wi-fi friendly so we will be able to send out our blogs right away.

Cost of the lecture is P1,200 per member and P1,400 for non-members.  Members may bring friends. Payments are to be deposited to the CHOP account at BDO # 535-800-8146.

Pia will need a headcount by Monday July 20 to give the caterer and speaker an idea of how many are attending.

Thanks to our CHOP member, Ige Ramos, he was able to get the venue for free and has arranged that a complimentary tour of the shrine be given to members at 2:30 pm.

The schedule of events is as follows:
2:00 pm     Registration
2:30 pm     Shrine tour
3:30 pm.    Lecture on promoting Philippine food on social media by Carlo Fong Luy
5:00 pm.    Merienda Cena, catered by Sonny Lua of Asiong's in Cavite City
6:00 pm     End with seeing the Aguinaldo Shrine lighted up, a pretty picture indeed *

* During the last Independence Day celebration, an amazing video mapping was done at the shrine but this is no longer available.  However, you may view this feat on youtube.  Click on this link to see:  http://www.interaksyon.com/lifestyle/amazing-video-watch-aguinaldo-shrine-come-to-life-with-a-spectacular-video-mapping-show.

If this lecture and food is interesting for you to come and join, please reply to Pia only, so as not to clog up everyone's email unnecessarily.

To use as photos to blog about and to satisfy our food cravings for traditional CaviteƱo cuisine, our menu is:
